From 1 January 2021, the UK will apply a UK-specific tariff to imported goods. This UK Global Tariff (UKGT) will replace the EU’s Common External Tariff, which applies until 31 December 2020.
The Heritage Alliance reported that Historic England has reviewed the tariffs to see the changes in relation to goods and materials used in conservation that have been previously identified as sourced exclusively or primarily from overseas.
Overall, Historic England’s assessment suggests that the tariffs show no change, or have been reduced. "There are no increases in commodities, and proposed tariffs are mostly at zero percent or very low," the Alliance outlined. The assessment looked at a range of conservation materials including glass, stone, timber, brick and clay.
