The talk will focus on the COMPLEX project, using mathematical modelling to predict plastics decay.
Introduction to COMPLEX - understanding, modelling and predicting degradation of plastics in museum collections
The talk will focus on the COMPLEX project, which Katherine led from 2017-2022. COMPLEX developed a mathematical model to predict the degradation rate of cellulose acetate objects in different environmental conditions. Katherine will discuss the model, the experiments used to test it and how the results can be used to explore the consequences of storage or display decisions on the properties of cellulose acetate.
