The Modern Materials Network are looking to recruit additional committee members!
Working alongside our current committee, we are seeking a social media manager to oversee our Twitter account, two events officers to assist with brainstorming and logistics, and a network liaison to serve as a point of contact and communicate with other Icon groups and networks. These roles would be expected to serve on our committee for at least 2 years, with at least one in person meeting per year.

Conservation Manager, Museum of London
Jannicke Langfeldt is Conservation Manager (objects) at the Museum of London, previously she was managing the Conservation Section at the Science Museum, London for 14 years. Jannicke is a founding member of the Modern Materials Network of Icon and has a long standing interest in modern materials in heritage contexts. She is in equal measures excited and worried about the long term stability of modern materials in the Museum and Natural Environment

Conservation Specialist, Natural History Museum
Fabiana is a a Conservation Specialist at the Natural History Museum. She has a background in Object Conservation and Heritage Science. Her interests include: plastics identification, storage solutions for unstable plastics and volatile pollutants emitted by polymers in museum contexts. As well as her inquisitiveness for modern materials, she also has a passion for outreach, training and Integrated Pest Management.

Conservation Operations Manager, Victoria and Albert Museum
Vanessa Applebaum is Conservation Operations Manager at the Victoria and Albert Museum, and founding member of Icon’s Modern Materials Network. Her research interests include the preservation of modern materials, particularly bioplastics, additive manufacturing, and the public understanding of the field of conservation.
IT Officer
Conservation Scientist, Collections Conservation, English Heritage
Bhav Shah is Conservation Scientist in the Collections Conservation department at English Heritage. He has an MChem Chemistry and currently studying for MSc in Data Science for Cultural Heritage at UCL. Experience in preventive conservation providing advice for the storage and display of objects. Research interests include applying data science and machine learning methods for the analysis of museum data, scientific analysis and digital conservation.

Sculpture and Installation Art Conservator, Tate
Carla Flack is a conservator of Contemporary Art focussing on sculpture and installation art. In 2008 she received an MA from the University of Lincoln (United Kingdom) in the Conservation of Historic Objects. Subsequently she has worked privately and for various institutions in the UK including the Science Museum (London) and Historic Royal Palaces (London). She has worked for the Sculpture and Installation Conservation department at Tate (London) since 2012 where she has worked across all areas but especially for the loans out programme. She is a founding member of the ICON: Modern Materials Network in the UK.

Objects conservator, the Museum of London
Laura Chaillie is an objects conservator with the Museum of London, where she supports both the remedial conservation for, and planning of, the new West Smithfield site. Her research interests include the characterisation and interventive care of deteriorating plastics and the preservation of electronic musical instruments.
